Procedure for Wireless Access Point Setup

Look at the below guidelines for wireless access point setup on your router device:

  • Step 1: The first step is to connect the router as an access point and computer through an Ethernet cable. You need to ensure that the Ethernet cable from the computer or laptop is connected to the LAN ports on the router.
  • Step 2: After that, connect the power cable from the router to the electrical socket and wait for some time until your device is turned on. Enter the IP address of your router in the address bar of the web browser.
  • Step 3: You can easily find the IP address of the router on the backside of the router device. You can also find these details in the user manual of your router.
  • Step 4: Once you enter the IP address of your router, click on the enter button. Thereafter, the web page displays on the screen. Now, enter the username and password of the router for security purposes.
  • Step 5: Enter the default username and password of the router. Tap on the login button and then go to the Wireless tab.
  • Step 6: Thereafter, set the SSID or network name and password for the router. Click on the Apply button.
  • Step 7: In the next step, visit the admin tab and set a unique password for the access point of your router.
  • Step 8: Search for the Operation Mode option on the EWS web page and tap on it. Select “Access Point” mode from the displayed list.
  • Step 9: Now, make all the required changes and click on the Save button.
  • Step 10: The access point has a new SSID and password. Connect your Ethernet cable to the WAN/ Internet port on the access point and existing router.

Steps to Configure Router as Access Point

Sometimes you have an old router and want to extend the wireless range to the other areas. The best way to do the same is to install the access point. Using the router as the access point or using a spare modem is the best way to enhance the wireless signals. Follow the below steps to configure router as access point in a wireless network:

  • Step 1: Firstly, check the default IP address. For this, launch a web address from your connected device in the network. Enter windows+R to open the Run dialogue box and then type CMD to open the command prompt. Thereafter, enter ipconfig. You can check the IP address of the default gateway under the wireless LAN adaptor.
  • Step 2: Open the configuration settings of the router. You can get the IP address, user ID, and password on the label at the backside of the router.
  • Step 3: After that, assign the same IP class as the main router but the IP number has to be different. For example, if the IP address of your main router is then you can assign the IP address to others. To manage these settings, open the configuration of the router by entering the user ID and password. After that, you will navigate to the LAN settings where you can change the IP address.
  • Step 4: In the next step, disable the DHCP of the second router which is already enabled by the main router. Go to the DHCP settings and disable it.
  • Step 5: Thereafter, connect two routers with a wireless network cable. You need to connect both the cable to the LAN ports. The WiFi signals get affected by the concrete walls or glass windows. It helps in extending the range of wireless signals by configuring the old router as an access point.
